The Best Hints For The Kitchen..

Too Salty-
  • For soup and stew, add cut raw potatoes and discard once they have cooked and absorbed the salt.
  • Another remedy for salty soup and stew is to add a teaspoon each of cider veniger and sugar.
  • Or, simply add sugar.

Too Sweet-
  • Add salt
  • If it's a main dish or vegetable, add a teaspoon of cider vinegar

Pale Gravy-
  • Colour with a few drop of Kitchen Bouquet (available at grocery stores).
  • To avoid the problem in the first place, brown the flour well before adding the liquid. This also helps prevent lumpy gravy.
  • A different way of browning flour is to put some flour into a custard cup and place beside meat in the oven. Once the meat is done the flour will be nice and brown, ready to make a rich, brown gravy.

Thin Gravy-
  • Mix water and flour or cornstarch into a smooth paste. Add gradually, stirring constantly, and bring to a boil.
  • Try instant potato flakes instead of flour.

Gravy-smooth as silk-
  • Keep a jar with a mixture of equal parts of flour and cornstarch. Put 3 or 4 tablespoons of this mixture in another jar and add some water. Shake, and in a few minutes you will have a smooth paste for gravy.

Greasy gravy-
  • Add a small amount of baking soda if it is quite greasy..

Look What Things From The Kitchen Can Do !!!! ( Part 2)

Ammonia-
1) To remove a cork from the inside of beautiful empty wine bottle, pour some ammonia into the bottle and set in a well-ventilated spot. The cork will disintegrate in a few days.

Lard-
1) If nothing else has worked to remove a grease spot from a solid-colored dress, try this- but only if you feel you have nothing to lose. Work lard through the material, covering every part of the spot evenly. Wash the garment thoroughly in hot suds and rinse well. The spot should have disappeared.

Milk-
1) Stains from ballpoint pens can be removed by sponging the area with milk until stain disappears.
2) Red- wine stains on linen can be removed by immediately putting the material into a pot containing enough milk to cover the stain area. Bring to a boil and remove from burner. Let stand until the stain has completely disappeared. This method should also work on older wine stains.
3) A simple way to remove cracks in china cups is to simmer the cup in milk for 30-45 minutes, depending on the size of the crack. If the crack is not too wide, the protein in the milk will seal it.

Oven-
1) Have your tennis ball lost their bounce? If so, place the can of balls with the lid off overnight in a closed oven. The heat from the pilot light will get them back into shape.

Rice-
1) When postage stamps won't stick to the envelope, apply a few grains of cooking rice or some evaporated milk as a good emergency substitute for glue.

Salt-
1) A handful of salt in the washday rinse water will help keep clothes from sticking or freezing to the clothesline on damp, cold days.

Spoons-

1) To banish onion, garlic, and bleach odors from hands, put all five fingers on the handle of a stainless- steel spoon and run cold water over fingers.

Chili Sauce-
1) Cats hate the smell of chili sauce! If your cat is climbing and scratching woodwork, just rub the area with chili sauce, buff off thoroughly, and your cat will stay clear! (use this hint only for dark woodwork)

Coke-
1) Along with detergent, add a bottle of coke to a load of greasy work clothes. It will help loosen serious grease stains.
2) Battery-terminal corrosion can be prevented by saturating each terminal with a carbonated drink.
3) Instead of throwing leftover Coke down the kitchen drain, dump it down the toilet bowl and watch what happens. After it soaked awhile, the toilet should be sparkling clean.

Flour-
1) Clean white kid gloves by rubbing plain flour into the leather and brushing the dirt away.
2) To clean plastic playing cards, drop the deck into a paper bag and add a few tablespoon of flour. Shake briskly, then wipe completely clean.
